Romeo and Juliet Timeframe

Sunday morning:

Members of the Houses of Capulet and Montague enter into a street brawl.

Sunday Midday

Benvolio then goes looking for Romeo. He finds Romeo and he confesses that he is in love with Rosaline but she does not love him back.

Sunday Afternoon:

Capulet and Paris talk about Juliet. Capulet says that Juliet is the world to her. Paris wants to marry Juliet. Capulet asks his servant to ask some people to go to his party. The servant doesn’t know how to read and so he invites Romeo and Benvolio then they go to the Capulet’s party.

Sunday Night:

Romeo, Mercutio and Benvolio go to the Capulet’s party. Tybalt recognises Romeo when they are all at the party and he is about to go and fight him but Capulet stops him. Romeo then meets Juliet. They talk to each other and fall in love , at quite literally, first sight. They both do not know that they are from the opposing families. Juliet then finds out that Romeo is a Montague but she doesn’t freak out or get angry.

Juliet is at her balcony later into the night and Romeo is hiding in the Capulet’s orchard. Romeo heard everything Juliet thinks about Romeo. They then talk to each other about how much they love each other and would die if they were apart. They both agree to get married the very next day.

Monday Morning:

Romeo goes to see Friar Lawrence the next day. Friar Lawrence is collecting herbs to create some medicine but turns out to be the poison at the end. Romeo talks to Friar Lawrence about how much he loves Juliet and how he couldn’t sleep he whole night because he was thinking about Juliet.

Romeo and Juliet get married by Friar Lawrence.

Monday Afternoon:

Mercutio and Benvolio are in the street (or in the film, at the beach) talking. Tybalt comes to find Romeo but he isn’t there. Tybalt talks about Romeo aggressively and Mercutio begins to get angry. Romeo arrives and Tybalt starts ranting on about him. Mercutio gets angry and fights with Mercutio. Romeo stands between them and Tybalt stabs Mercutio through Romeo’s arm. Mercutio says it is a little wound but eventually dies. Romeo gets really angry and avenges Mercutio by killing Tybalt. Romeo runs away and the Capulets, Montagues and the Prince arrive. They hear from Benvolio that Tybalt killed Mercutio and Romeo killed Tybalt. The Prince decides that Romeo is guilty and banishes him from Verona.

Monday Evening:

Romeo goes to see Juliet and they talk about the banishment of Romeo and how they are going to miss each other. A little later, Lady Capulet comes up to talk about marrying Paris on Thursday and Romeo leaves.

Tuesday Morning:

Juliet tells Nurse, Lady Capulet and Capulet that she doesn’t want to marry County Paris and Capulet gets really angry and says that if Juliet does not marry Paris, then he will disown her.

Tuesday Afternoon:

Paris goes to Firar Lawrence about the marriage of him and Juliet. Juliet comes and Paris goes. Friar Lawrence and Juliet then talk about the problem and Friar Lawrence advises that she pretends that she wants to marry Paris to convince her father. After that, she will drink a sleeping potion which will make it seem as though she is dead. Later in the afternoon, she tells her father that she wants to marry Paris and so Capulet brings the wedding to Wednesday instead of Thursday.

Tuesday Night:

Juliet drinks the sleeping potion to make it seem like she is dead. Friar Lawrence’s plan begins.

Wednesday Morning:

Nurse finds Juliet “dead” and then the rest of the Capulets come to see the “dead” Juliet. The wedding preparations are changed to those of a funeral.

Wednesday Afternoon:

Romeo hears from Balthasar that Juliet is dead so he goes to an apothecary to get a poison to kill himself at the side of Juliet. Friar John tells Friar Lawrence that the message could not be delivered due to the fact that there is an infection going around and that area was put in quarantine.

Thursday Evening:

Romeo goes in to the tomb to see his “dead” wife and Paris comes in and then the two men fight each other and Paris dies after fighting. Romeo takes the poison and then dies. Friar Lawrence then comes in to wake Juliet but he finds Romeo dead and Juliet who had just awoken. Juliet sees Romeo dead and picks up his dagger and stabs herself. The Prince, Capulets and Montagues  come to see what had happened and find out the whole story from Friar Lawrence. The two families then end their feud.

This is the end of the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
